The Smart Hook is a capstone project at the University of Washington run as a joint effort between the Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering departments, sponsored by the Applied Physics Lab (APL). The goal of this project is to develop an autonomous system capable of navigating to an underwater target and interacting with it, allowing a surface winch (e.g. on board a ship) to retrieve difficult-to-reach objects below the surface.
